[Cui Dongshu: National Passenger Vehicle Market Inventory Reaches 3.45 Million Units at Month-End in May, with 54 Days of Inventory]Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association, stated in an article that at the end of May 2025, the inventory of the national passenger vehicle industry reached 3.45 million units, a decrease of 50,000 units from the previous month and an increase of 160,000 units compared to May 2024, indicating a sustained high level of inventory. The current policy initiatives have brought overall optimism among producers, with high production levels driven by trade-in policies and relatively active wholesale activities by manufacturers, leading to the industry's inventory reaching a new high in nearly two years. With the promotion of central consumption-boosting policies and the activation of marketing activities such as auto shows across the country, as sales gradually transition into the off-season from June to August, sales are expected to decline over the next three months. Therefore, based on the inventory at the end of May 2025 and a comprehensive estimate of future sales, the existing inventory is projected to support 54 days of future sales, slightly increasing the overall inventory pressure compared to 54 days in May 2023 and 51 days in May 2024.

The conference required that vehicle producers and power battery producers should consciously assume the main responsibility for product quality and safety, do a good job in risk prevention in areas such as product design verification, manufacturing, and after-sales service, strictly fulfill their obligation to inform, guide consumers to use vehicles correctly, refrain from exaggerated and false advertising, and resolutely uphold the safety bottom line. They should adhere to long-termism, avoid "cut-throat competition," and must not cut corners, use inferior materials, or sacrifice product performance and quality to achieve short-term "cost reduction and efficiency enhancement."
